Network Edge provides network design, implementation, and support services to The Selwyn Foundation

The Selwyn Foundation is one of New Zealand’s largest charitable providers of independent retirement living, residential care and community services for older people. The Foundation has been active for 60 years and currently operates across nine sites in the upper North Island.

Typical of its recent developments is the expansion of Selwyn Heights Village in Hillsborough, Auckland, where a range of new independent living apartments and resident amenities provide state-of-the-art facilities for retirees looking for comfort and style in a premium environment.

To keep abreast of rapid growth in the business and maintain the quality and currency of IT services for staff and residents, Selwyn has an ongoing implementation strategy with regard to the application of new information and communications technology. The goal of this ongoing program of work is to ensure the general infrastructure is fit for purpose and able to stay ahead of demand. Today, the Selwyn-wide area network and LAN at every village provides access to business support systems and IP telephony, and provides wired and wireless Internet access for staff and residents.

Manager Information and Technology for The Selwyn Foundation, Andy Stewart, is leading the technology plan and comments: “Our network is critically important to the Foundation for several reasons. It supports staff access to all of our business applications, campus and business-wide telephony, and cost-effective wired and wireless access to the Internet. Telephone service and fast and inexpensive access to the Internet from all of our villages, and from anywhere within a village, is expected on a 24/7 basis by residents. To maintain the availability of the network and associated infrastructure, we need partners whom we can trust and who have the right skills and motivation. Network Edge is one of those partners.”

As the Selwyn network must be available 24/7, the Foundation has not only sought IT support organisations that are nimble and fast to respond, but who also have sufficient technical depth and experience to really add value when it comes to implementing and supporting demanding technologies. In 2013, Selwyn chose Network Edge for its network support, because Network Edge was able to demonstrate that they have genuine and well tested skill and experience appropriate to the Selwyn environment.

Network Edge is retained by Selwyn to provide tiered LAN, WAN and telephony infrastructure support, project services, and to supply network infrastructure when requested. These services are wrapped in a service management framework which guarantees telephone-based response and onsite attendance as and when required. As the Foundation expands its operations, Network Edge will be there to support ongoing change to its network infrastructure.

Paul Johnson from Network Edge comments: “As for many of our supported customers – our challenge is to manage and maintain quality, skilled technical resources with deep knowledge of the Selwyn network, such that the Foundation continuously derives value from the engagement. We accept this challenge and will do what is required to provide 1st rate service to Selwyn for the long haul.”
