Beca is one of Asia Pacific’s largest independent advisory, design, and engineering consultancies. They employ more than 3,700 people across 25 offices around the world and work with clients across a wide range of markets including industrial, power, buildings, government, transport, and water.

Beca requested responses from the market for a new Wide Area Network that would support their accelerating demands for application bandwidth between Data Centres and offices across NZ, Australia, and Asia, while also providing fast direct office access to the Internet.  Their goals were to dramatically increase bandwidth availability and resilience, enable ever increasing use of Cloud resident applications from anywhere in the network, and maintain gold standard security.  In addition, Beca were seeking a nimble and responsive local partner who they could rely on for technical nous and experience, and who could genuinely add value for the implementation and support of a demanding networking environment.

Network Edge was successful with their bid and have worked with Beca to design and deploy a hybrid SD-WAN solution that combines uncontested Data Centre and interoffice connectivity over MPLS, MPLS backup and bandwidth overflow via Internet tunnels, and secure local Internet breakout for every office.

Head of ICT Operations, Ampie Vos who leads the network infrastructure technology plan for Beca, comments: “Our WAN is critically important to the Beca Group for several reasons. It must support the latest design applications that require real time global collaboration, increased and optimised bandwidth for large AutoCAD file transfers, and direct interoffice collaboration. To design and maintain the network and associated infrastructure we need partners whom we can trust and who have the right skills and motivation. Network Edge is one of those partners.”

Business Development Manager for Network Edge, Greg Carter, comments: “The challenge we set ourselves now is to maintain robust support processes with highly skilled and experienced technical resources who understand the Beca network from the ground up. This ensures we can continually deliver quality support for the Beca international SD-WAN.“
